GRC - Governance, Risk Management, and Compliance There is a new buzzword - “GRC” (or Governance, Risk Manangement, and Compliance). In this world of regulations and compliance issues, board of directors and senior management must be aware of GRC objectives. GRC combines the concepts of governance, risk, and compliance into one overall concept that is used to improve business models from a risk point of view while ensuring appropriate governance, oversight, monitoring, and compliance. Institute of Internal Auditor's - "Tone at the Top" |

Professional Associations |

An important part of this newsletter is the identification of professional associations that provide training and seminars to information technology, governance, security, and other professionals in Puerto Rico. We will publish all activities and seminars of these associations so that each professional can select which seminar or training to attend for their own professional growth, as well as, the accumulation of Continuing Professional Credits for their certification requirements. |

ISACA Puerto Rico is the local chapter of ISACA an internacional association that serves IT Governance professionals. The local chapter was established in 1984 and currently has approximately 270 members. They offer the Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) and Certified Information Security Manager (CISM)certifications. |

The Puerto Rico chapter of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners is a professional organization dedicated to fighting fraud and white-collar crime. Internationally, the association has over 25,000-members. The Puerto Rico Chapter holds a monthly meeting the last Tuesday of the month except in July and December. The monthly meeting is held at the National Guard, Restaurant Vista El Atlántico, Puerta de Tierra, San Juan.

ISSA Puerto Rico is the local chapter of the Information Systems Security Association® (ISSA). ISSA is the largest international, not-for-profit association specifically for security professionals. It offers the Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification. More information. |

ISOCPR is the Puerto Rico Chapter of the Internet Society. It serves professionals interested in the use, evolution and open development of the Internet for the benefit of all people in Puerto Rico and throughout the World. Created in the United States in 1992, the Internet Society is a non-profit entity dedicated to safeguarding the best interests of the Internet as well as stimulate its use throughout the globe. The “Colegio de CPA de Puerto Rico” was established by law in 1973. It serves all persons practicing public accounting are obligated to be members of the “Colegio”. It provides training and services to promote professional excellence. More information.

InfraGard is a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) program that began in the Cleveland Field Office in 1996. It was a local effort to gain support from the information technology industry and academia for the FBI’s investigative efforts in the cyber arena. The Puerto Rico chapter has been active for 1 year.
